Country decorating trend: on the riverside

Punting down the river on a warm summer’s afternoon, cocktail in hand, is my idea of heaven. So when i spied the riverside decorating feature in September’s Country Homes & Interiors, I almost fell overboard.

I love the idea of creating a cosy little picnic spot overlooking the river. This summer is all about easy-going stripes in the fresh new colours of lilac and pistachio – and it works a treat. Add floral bunting, colourful picnicware and a comfy steamer chair to relax in. What more could you want?

Bunting and flags give an instant party feel to outdoor dining. Set folding canvas directors’ chairs around a teak table dressed up with stripes.

Love the alfresco bathroom – would be so practical for just hosing the kids down before letting them in the house. I think in our climate we would probably also need some serious patio heaters with it though!

Very cute, I love the first one by the river – I need a lake in my back garden! But I hope the Alfresco bathroom isn’t overlooked or somewhere cold!!
