Budget-busting Christmas dining room update

December 22, 2010

No time? No money? No problem! Ideal Home‘s cash clever decorator has some great tips for updating your dining room for Christmas if all that money has gone on your kids’ gift list! I love this modern take on Scandi-chic, and I love even more, that it won’t break the bank!

Here are some cost-friendly tips:

1) Instead of a runner, use long lengths of ribbon to give a white tablecloth a festive touch

2) Paint a picture frame (without the glass) and stick a silhouette decoration to it.

3) Transform dining chairs with personalised chunky metal letters tied with red ribbon. These designs only cost a tenner from Emily Readett-Bayley!

Festive Fetish: Foliage and Frost

December 22, 2010

Now that’s a lot of F words for one morning!! I really enjoy this idea for festive feasting though (sorry, it’s addictive!) it’s simply stylish, it’s sophisticated and it’s easy to put together if you’re running low on time.

For a chic country Christmas dining room like this one, white-painted furniture and a nature-inspired subtle wallpaper is ideal, but don’t worry if not – just pack your dining room full of realistic-looking greenery, frosted pine cones and wicker pieces!

Keep tableware simple, but pile on the sparkle with a mix of silver and white Christmas decorations in a range of textures and finishes.

Christmas past… doily dining room

December 21, 2010

I love this quirky dining room idea… not sure I’d do it myself… but it’s certainly memorable. The ghost of Christmas past meets the ghost of Christmas future as the classic Victorian-style doily meets modern red furniture and accessories.

To get the look, stitch doilies together in a delicate tablecloth, or use frills on fairy lights for a dramy, dinner-time garland.

Festive Fetish: Winter Wonderland

December 20, 2010

Bring the beauty of a wintry landscape (ignore the muddy slush) into your home this Christmas with these beautiful seasonal style ideas from Ideal Home.

Here’s how to get this Christmas living room look:

1) Keep the backdrop plain, here they’ve used a subtle twig-pattern wallpaper in two tonal colourways.

2) Add texture with chunky knitted throws and cushions.

3) Complete with woodland-inspired or folksy accessories, such as birdhouses, log candleholders and pine cone decorations.

Christmas decorating trend: beach chic

December 2, 2010

These are two decorating notions I’ve never put together… but then I do come from a country where if you have dry socks and unfrizzy hair at Christmas time, it’s a good day. It’s easy to forget that the majority of people don’t have to cosy up with a hot water bottle during the holiday season.

With that in mind, I’ve been on the hunt for some sunshine-friendly Christmas trends. I LOVE The Inspired Room blog – it’s held my attention for longer than my Christmas list. Check out these beautiful schemes.

Christmas decorating trends on the high street

October 15, 2010

As some of you may have seen from my ‘I can’t believe I’m eating mince pies during swimsuit season’ Tweets, I’ve been having a sneaky peak at what’s in store (literally) for Christmas on the high street since May this year – when well-known brands open up their festive doors for us decorating fanatics to have a nosey.

Well I don’t know about you, but the thought of talking about Christmas in June has the same appeal as talking about vest tops in December, so I have kept all the exciting new Christmas decorations to myself. HOWEVER, with the weather looking worse, and the large comfy jumpers coming on, I officially cannot wait any longer! The thought of mince pies, Christmas presents and Christmas decorations is all that could POSSIBLY get me through yet another soaked ballet pump.

Tune in, I’ve got some great pics from the shows…
