Summer of Love: best boys’ bedrooms

September 13, 2010

Thinking about decorating your little boy’s bedroom? Don’t lift a finger until you’ve checked out the latest schemes in the Summer of Love series.

With the kids going back to school, now’s the time to turn over a new leaf and create the perfect little hideaway that is both educational and fun. These are my top 3:

1) This bedroom is perfect for young lads. A map or the world takes centre stage behind the bed, while Union Jack accessories give it a contemporary edge. Red cushions and a matching lamp add a welcome touch of colour.

2) All boys need somewhere they can escape to (usually so they can avoid little sisters) so this teepee bedroom is ideal. More fun features include a blackboard for doodling and brightly coloured floor cushions for tumbling about on with friends. What more could he want?

3) A lick of paint has transformed this room into an imaginative space for little lads. Blues and greens combine to make a striking feature wall – the perfect foil for warm wood furniture and natural flooring. Cheerful motifs on the window treatment bring a playful element.

Summer of Love: top 3 bathrooms

September 10, 2010

Bathrooms are top of my agenda today – and I’m determined to find three amazing schemes to appear in my Summer of Love shortlist.

1) Top of the list is this little beauty from Fresh Home. The floor-to-ceiling windows create a seamless flow between inside and out, and the view is to die for! All I need now is a white fluffy robe (and maybe a personal masseuse) and I’m good to go.

2) Now the next bathroom might not have the same wow factor, but its elegant design and country-style accessories have completely won me over.

I love the roll-top bath and decorative screen – not to mention the white-painted panelled walls. It’s the definition of cool, calm and collected. Bliss.

3) Last, but not least, is this luxury bathroom from Livingetc.com.

This amazing bathroom has a bespoke combined shower and bath that creates a truly stunning feature. And the best part? It’s big enough for two!

Summer of Love: 3 best hallway ideas

September 9, 2010

OK, so onward with my summer favourites! Hmmmmm, let’s start with sexy hallway ideas. I’ve been browsing the web daily for inspiration for my hallway ever since I decided to buy my house!

Here are my top 3 hallway ideas of the summer…

1) Casual hallway seating. I love the thought of my friends and family (travelling MILES to visit me, of course!!) slumping down into a cosy haven as soon as they get through the door!

2) Update a white staircase. I fell in love with the rainbow bannisters, what a great (and, most importantly, inexpensive) way to update a neutral space.

3) A touch of good ol’ coastal style. Summer wouldn’t be summer without at least one seaside-inspired decorating scheme to wow me. I love this hallway idea, especially the personalised memo boards for each member of the family.

Summer of LOVE – my favourite schemes!

September 9, 2010

Now I’m not saying that summer is over by ANY means… there are still the hopeful short skirt-wearing evenings (brrrrrrrr) and the ‘nah, I don’t need my umbrella’ mornings (drip drip drip)… but I think that now might be the time to celebrate the BEAUTIFUL summer room schemes that I’ve seen this year. Oh how they’ve brightened up my days.

So, I hope you don’t mind if I ruthlessly pick 3 of my favourite summer schemes for each room for the next few posts (oh it’s going to be tough)… before the Christmas decorating ideas start pouring onto our screens (OOoh anyone heard any Christmas songs in the shops yet? My record year was 20o8, October 31st!)

I’m sure they’ll bring you bags of decorating inspiration and ideas!
