A cuter bedroom decorating idea?

April 12, 2011

GAH! I can’t decide between this beautiful vintage bedroom and yesterday’s cute-as-pie guest bedroom?? What do you guys think?

Check out this photo gallery of 5 steps to a vintage-style bedroom

My favourite idea has to be the lace wall stencil and jewellery display! Never has buying new jewellery been so justifiable in the interior design style stakes!

The cutest bedroom decorating idea…

April 11, 2011

Ok, it’s a bit of a toss up between this and another gorgeous look actually, the other one I’ll save for tomorrow… (what? I’ve got to keep some mystery!?) Anyway, inspired by my poor excuse for a hotel-style guest bedroom retreat (ahem… think ‘sofa bed’) I’ve been taking notes from Housetohome’s latest spring decorating idea – 5 steps to a pretty guest bedroom.

Follow the link to their 5 easy bedroom decorating ideas… Enjoy!

Cosy living room decorating ideas!

July 26, 2010

I know it’s “summer” and all, but that didn’t stop the “warm summer nights” turning my feet into ice blocks – it’s worse when you least expect it! Anyway, last week I was chatting to Country Homes and Interiors editor, Rhoda Parry, about creating a cosy living room and it couldn’t have come at a better time …. between my frost-bitten feet and my decision to wear a short-sleeved top to work!

Enjoy!

Feature wallpaper goes cuckoo!

July 13, 2010

Woah! Slow down feature wallpaper, I only asked what your name was!! I love a funky feature wallpaper, and I love the bird trend – especially when it’s incorporated in a summery bedroom design idea, but this is too much for me.

Maybe it’s the combination of the feature wallpaper AND the screen upholstered in exactly the same pattern? Or maybe it’s the fact that a room full of swans isn’t my idea of relaxation? (as much as I love Osborn & Little designs in general) But I just think it’s too much – what do you guys think? Am I being harsh?

Swanky design ideas for living rooms – modern vs classic

June 3, 2010

Ooooooh fancy! Check out these living room decorating ideas for every style. I’ve split them up between modern and classic and formal (no feet on the sofas please) and relaxed (get me my darn book, immediately!) Fine, I admit, I’d be a tad nervous about even drinking a cup of tea in one these schemes, but BOY are they easy on the eye.

Decorating ideas for bedrooms – soft metallics

April 26, 2010

I’ve been getting bags of inspiration from Ideal Home‘s recent feature on ‘blast away the beige with modern neutrals‘ – perfect if you don’t want to add to much colour, but are about as tired of cream as you are of Mondays!

This bedroom design idea is sooooooooo pretty – best ask your hubby for permission first, mind – there’s a lot of girlyness involved! Add softly shimmering shades with with a metallic feature wallpaper, silk cushions and mirrored accessories. Don’t go too crazy with the metallic tones though, highlight just a few areas NOT the whole room – remember sleek, not freak!

Finally keep the furniture simple and not too ornate to avoid the decorating scheme from looking too fussy.

Bedroom design ideas – my top 5!

March 25, 2010

Although I’ve a self-confessed country-style NUT, that doesn’t mean my dream home will look like a glorified gingerbread house (although that would have it’s perks). I seem to take inspiration from a wide range of decorating styles I find along the way, from futuristic modern (quirky metal clock) to gothic punk glamour (fuchsia and black floor lamp in the living room).

Desperately wanting to give my bedroom an update, I’ve been hunting for the latest bedroom design ideas to suit a range of decorating styles this week. Hope you’re as inspired as I am. (Oooh and please send me pictures of any dream-filled schemes you’ve seen)

One for country-style lovers – ok, this would suit my gingerbread house a … treat!

One for pattern lovers – Oodles of sixties-inspired boudoir chic. The Vivienne Westwood wallpaper is fab!

One for modern minimalist lovers – show-stopping lipstick red bedding takes centre stage. The garden clock adds outsized, yet minimal impact (no late for work excuses for you then!)

One to keep him happy – hold up a piece of floral fabric to some men and they’ll run away faster than you can say ‘it’s my new dress you idiot!’ I like this scheme, it’s a happy compromise (as long as those photo frames don’t contain pictures of his ex-girlfriends!)

One for eclectic lovers – plonk modern pieces next to antique-style furniture, and eye-popping colour next to white gloss for a big ol’ bag of eclectic panache!

Oh sugar, sugar – living room design idea

March 16, 2010

I wish the decorating world would stop reminding me of my ‘giving up sweets for Lent’ situation (only 18 days to go … not that I’m counting!)

Bold sherbet tones are the latest way to liven up a neutral living room decorating scheme. Check out this gob-stopping mix of raspberry, lemon and lime. (My mouth’s watering? Surely that’s proof enough that I NEEDED to give up sweets!)

Go for neutral walls and flooring and then be brave with one vivid colour, like the raspberry here, and mix with dashes of other candy-coloured tones.

The accessories couples fight about

October 22, 2009

The winners are in! Following on from my recent post on ‘lazyboy chairs‘, we’ve been quizzing the public on housetohome.co.uk for the most mind-BOGGLING/horrifying furniture pieces or accessories your true love has brought to the table when moving in together.

We’ve heard stories on everything from a man who tried to introduce a retro collection of robots to his wife’s country-style scheme, to a woman who insisted on putting potpourri on every table in the house, much to her fiance’s dismay. We finally came up with the most common irritations for both men and women. See the results in our gallery – From Lazyboys to house plants: 10 products couples fight about.

Graphic wall art has got to be one of my favourite of the most common responses – not the best way to introduce the love of your life to your new home. The playboy bachelor pad living room below is just screaming to be littered with romantic pictures … in HEART FRAMES!

p.s Thanks Dorothy for the wonderful comment about your boyfriend’s Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle bedlinen – it made me chuckle allllll morning! And more to the point, congratulations on shifting it.

The ultimate accessory

October 12, 2009

I’m having fun asking myself the ‘who lives in a house like this’ question when I look at new rooms on the web. At first I predicted this house on Livingetc belonged to a glamorous French poet or eccentric travel writer, but it turns out it belongs to ultra-chic handbag designer, Lulu Guinness.

In hindsight it is everything I’d expect – it’s girly, it’s pretty … and, well, it fits more than just a lipstick and a bunch of house keys! It’s packed with gorgeous accessories and glamorous finishing touches, if only you could take it out dancing!
