Mellow yellow bathroom splashback

February 28, 2011

One of the biggest trends for summer that I keep seeing time and time again is neon, bright colours being used as accents in an otherwise neutral room. After seeing so much orange around (remember this?) it’s nice to see that yellow is making an appearance too.

I would LOVE these basins in my bathroom...

Which is why this bathroom snapshot caught my eye earlier today. Statement basins are a great way of creating a feature out of something usually so ordinary and mundane, and nothing screams luxury like a glass splashback. What I love about this is, in fact, it’s a bit of a steal rather than a spending spree kind of room – that splashback is actually perspex, painted to look like expensive coloured glass. Bargain!

Guess how much this bathroom update cost?

November 22, 2010

A grand old £94.98… or the cost of two tops and a pair of shoes according to a mini shopping trip this weekend… and I doubt the shoes will last as long.

I love the exotic bamboo theme – it’s a fresh take on the classic spa-style bathroom look. The look is kept simple with a white suite and neutral floor tiles, but bold bamboo wallpaper adds oomph, especially with complementing accessories.

Summer of Love: top 3 bathrooms

September 10, 2010

Bathrooms are top of my agenda today – and I’m determined to find three amazing schemes to appear in my Summer of Love shortlist.

1) Top of the list is this little beauty from Fresh Home. The floor-to-ceiling windows create a seamless flow between inside and out, and the view is to die for! All I need now is a white fluffy robe (and maybe a personal masseuse) and I’m good to go.

2) Now the next bathroom might not have the same wow factor, but its elegant design and country-style accessories have completely won me over.

I love the roll-top bath and decorative screen – not to mention the white-painted panelled walls. It’s the definition of cool, calm and collected. Bliss.

3) Last, but not least, is this luxury bathroom from Livingetc.com.

This amazing bathroom has a bespoke combined shower and bath that creates a truly stunning feature. And the best part? It’s big enough for two!

Bathroom inspiration – boutique chic!

September 6, 2010

Did I ever show you the beautiful bathroom I saw at this year’s Ideal Home Show? I’m not sure I could get away with it in my ‘the size of a pea’ bathroom, but I love how smart and sophisticated it is… one day!

Here’s how to get the look…

1) Stick to classic monochrome but add warmth with plenty of cream – and keep the use of black to a minimum, like the black blind tapes and black-edged tiles shown here.

2) Mix period and modern pieces such as elaborate French-style furniture and a contemporary shower.

3) Splash out on high-shine wallpaper to add the wow-factor to your bathroom.

4) Cheat the eye with vinyl flooing instead of real limestone – spend the rest on swanky bath products!

5) Introduce accessories you wouldn’t think to see in the bathroom, such as a vintage-style cakestand for displaying pretty soaps and wine goblets for bath salts.

July 27, 2010

Not that this really applies to me … unless you count the ENDLESS amount of guests I insist come to stay at my house! I love these family bathroom design ideas from Housetohome though, they’re perfect for making the most of your bathroom space and creating a zone that’s as practical as it is stylish.

This is probably my favourite idea, but click on the image to see if any of the others take your fancy!

Beautiful bathroom design – pure and SIMPLE

July 22, 2010

I love love LOVE this cool, calm and collected bathroom decorating look. It’s all about neutral walls, wooden accessories and lightweight towels and robes for a spot summery relaxation in the tub!

The key to a country bathroom is a classic roll-top – place a screen nearby for a decorative touch!

I love the white-painted panelled walls. You could also layer a loosely woven voile fabric over an everyday plastic shower curtain to stop stray water spray – it looks stunning, too. Tie shells to the bottom for a pretty trim.

A teak basin adds warmth and a contemporary feel when fitted on to a classic console table. Arrange beauty buys and lotions on a wooden tray.

Bathroom design ideas – the good, the bad and the ugly!

July 14, 2010

Liever is becoming one of my favourite places to browse the latest quirky bathroom designs (it’s great for other rooms, too!) Fit-a-family baths, strange-but-true cabinetry, out-of this-wolrld furnishings, the works!

I’ve had a lil browse for bathroom designs this morning – anything to balance my kitchen craze at the moment – and found some fantastic designs … and some questionable ones …

The good

I mean, I could fit my HOUSE in that bath, plus those oversized spa-style pebbles could rival Stonehenge!

The bad

Note, I am NOT complaining about the setting (at ALL!) it’s just that the units are a bit modern and clinical for me.

The ugly

I do love a bathroom chandelier, but I’d just feel uncomfortable with minions serving me grapes – oh? Is that not a prerequisite of this kind of scheme?

There’s supporting the World Cup and then there’s …

June 10, 2010

THIS! I’m all for a little cheek paint here, and an England top there, but an England-inspired bathroom? It’s confusion like I’ve never encountered. I’m just praying that this bathroom decorating scheme is inspired by some deep-routed sense or patriotism, or love of history, and not by their love of football. On the other hand, if it is in support of this year’s World Cup, I’m happy to see that someone has enough faith in the England team to permanently hang a giant red Perspex CROSS!

Not my taste, but I admire their patriotism (goodness knows we’ll need it!)

Bathroom design ideas for every style

June 10, 2010

Housetohome is doing a series of the best traditional, modern and country rooms at the moment and I LOVE peering through the galleries to hunt for my favourites. The really tricky bit for me is deciding what style I am, because just when I’ve sat down with a cup of tea in front of the beautiful country style scheme, in PROUDLY strolls a modern design which pretty much stamps all over the chintzy little design – meany.

I’m thinking a lot about bathrooms this week, so these ideas couldn’t have come at a better time. Here are my favourite looks for each style.

Lunchtime lust: modern ’50s decorating ideas

January 6, 2010

I simply can’t accept a new decade, can I? Just before I swing myself back into the 2010s, I have to show you these quirky and colourful fifties-style decorating ideas from Livingetc.com. They certainly cheered me up on this super-chilly day.

I love the mix of Fifties-inspired floral wallpaper with a hot fuchsia sideboard in this modern bedroom.

I love the idea of a craft/hobby space, and it’s so easy to devote a section of your hallway to it – however compact your home. I absolutely ADORE that wallpaper. It’s from Designer’s Guild – see you at the checkout!
