Laid-back bathrooms

May 25, 2012

Desirable though they may look, big bathrooms with tubs stuck in the middle can’t be the most relaxing of places to spend half an hour (make that an hour). I prefer being closed in on three sides, and traditional bathrooms like this hit the spot for me. The encaustic wall tiles provide practicality while the tastefully painted tongue-and-groove adds cosiness. Even the shower curtain adds elegance! Now pass me the loofah…

Pastel splashes

May 4, 2012

Every day holds new surprises, and today is no different. After seeing pics of Catchpole & Rye’s new summer range of baths I realise I’m more in touch with my feminine side than I ever imagined! The Provence, for example, is pastel yellow – and it’s set against a pretty pink backdrop that would make most men run a mile. But I actually love it – apparently this roll-top design took its inspiration from an antique bath reclaimed from a chateau in France. Marvellous. Wonder what surprises tomorrow has in store?

Mellow yellow bathroom splashback

February 28, 2011

One of the biggest trends for summer that I keep seeing time and time again is neon, bright colours being used as accents in an otherwise neutral room. After seeing so much orange around (remember this?) it’s nice to see that yellow is making an appearance too.

I would LOVE these basins in my bathroom...

Which is why this bathroom snapshot caught my eye earlier today. Statement basins are a great way of creating a feature out of something usually so ordinary and mundane, and nothing screams luxury like a glass splashback. What I love about this is, in fact, it’s a bit of a steal rather than a spending spree kind of room – that splashback is actually perspex, painted to look like expensive coloured glass. Bargain!

Guess how much this bathroom update cost?

November 22, 2010

A grand old £94.98… or the cost of two tops and a pair of shoes according to a mini shopping trip this weekend… and I doubt the shoes will last as long.

I love the exotic bamboo theme – it’s a fresh take on the classic spa-style bathroom look. The look is kept simple with a white suite and neutral floor tiles, but bold bamboo wallpaper adds oomph, especially with complementing accessories.

Friday’s Fetish: Country cottage crafts

October 15, 2010

I LOVE everything homespun style! It’s such a cosy and warm look and really gives your home a welcoming, ‘lived-in’ feel… as opposed to a home that screams ‘Oh this? I only use this to sleep?’ or ‘well it’s better than sleeping outside!!’

The cottage craft look is a big country-style trend this year. It’s all about funky patchwork, eclectic embroidery and pretty knits in the latest feel-good fabrics.

Check out these cosy decorating schemes

Summer of Love: top 3 bathrooms

September 10, 2010

Bathrooms are top of my agenda today – and I’m determined to find three amazing schemes to appear in my Summer of Love shortlist.

1) Top of the list is this little beauty from Fresh Home. The floor-to-ceiling windows create a seamless flow between inside and out, and the view is to die for! All I need now is a white fluffy robe (and maybe a personal masseuse) and I’m good to go.

2) Now the next bathroom might not have the same wow factor, but its elegant design and country-style accessories have completely won me over.

I love the roll-top bath and decorative screen – not to mention the white-painted panelled walls. It’s the definition of cool, calm and collected. Bliss.

3) Last, but not least, is this luxury bathroom from Livingetc.com.

This amazing bathroom has a bespoke combined shower and bath that creates a truly stunning feature. And the best part? It’s big enough for two!

Bathroom inspiration – boutique chic!

September 6, 2010

Did I ever show you the beautiful bathroom I saw at this year’s Ideal Home Show? I’m not sure I could get away with it in my ‘the size of a pea’ bathroom, but I love how smart and sophisticated it is… one day!

Here’s how to get the look…

1) Stick to classic monochrome but add warmth with plenty of cream – and keep the use of black to a minimum, like the black blind tapes and black-edged tiles shown here.

2) Mix period and modern pieces such as elaborate French-style furniture and a contemporary shower.

3) Splash out on high-shine wallpaper to add the wow-factor to your bathroom.

4) Cheat the eye with vinyl flooing instead of real limestone – spend the rest on swanky bath products!

5) Introduce accessories you wouldn’t think to see in the bathroom, such as a vintage-style cakestand for displaying pretty soaps and wine goblets for bath salts.

Lunchtime lust: tickling a room pink

August 9, 2010

I love these pretty pink decorating ideas from Homes & Gardens. From delicate coral to punchy cerise, shades of pink are perfect for giving your summer an uplifting feel… something we all need (not mentioning any names Monsieur. RAIN!)

Give your terrace a modern Moroccan feel with spicey pink shades, corner seating and intricately detailed cushions.

It only takes subtle touches of vibrant colour, like these cute pompoms, to liven up an all-white interior.

Hmmmmmmmm, I’m nervous of the shell trim hitting the tiled floor but like the simple striped bedding.

The ultimate glamorous bathroom

August 9, 2010

This uber-glam dressing area has given me UTTER bathroom envy! Floor-to-ceiling storage for clothes and shoes (which… obviously have to be filled to complete the look… !!); contemporary florals, including a pretty upholstered screen (utterly boudoir-chic); a velvet daybed for a luxurious place to relax PLUS a sexy roll-top bath = a ‘husbands/boyfriends/partners this doesn’t concern you’ bathroom!

Just imagine getting ready for a girly night out in this beauty!
