Pastel splashes

May 4, 2012

Every day holds new surprises, and today is no different. After seeing pics of Catchpole & Rye’s new summer range of baths I realise I’m more in touch with my feminine side than I ever imagined! The Provence, for example, is pastel yellow – and it’s set against a pretty pink backdrop that would make most men run a mile. But I actually love it – apparently this roll-top design took its inspiration from an antique bath reclaimed from a chateau in France. Marvellous. Wonder what surprises tomorrow has in store?

Starstruck on shower baths

April 16, 2012

Shower baths may not seem the sexiest items when it comes to interiors, but I’m a man so the allure of shiny steel, gleaming glass and fiddly twiddly knobs is always going to appeal. Check out the Cora Ronde – it’s out of this world!

Bathroom tubs – the good, the bad, the ugly

February 24, 2010

I’ve been hunting for the best freestanding baths all morning and my top 10 were positively SAINTLY in comparison to these ‘loud mouths‘!

The good …

I adore traditional freestanding baths and I ADORE colour, so it’s no surprise that I really like this bathroom scheme. I’m not even offended that they’ve painted the metal feet.

The bad …

I mean, I’m all for making a bath the focal point, but when it reminds you of the end scene of Ghostbusters …? p.s I’m not sure if I want to know what’s image is tiled on that wall.

The ugly …

Button back chair? Elegant. Button back headboard? Classic. Button back BATH? I just don’t agree! And the drapes … oh the drapes. It’s like the set of ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’.

QUICK!! Before this happens to your bathroom …

February 5, 2010

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh, but this SHOCKING  bathroom makes me feel like I’ve stepped into a horrifying 1980s TV programme. I can’t think of anything less relaxing than getting into a ‘hot tub’ and being confronted with a giant SALMON-COLOURED shell!

To ensure this doesn’t happen to you (or alternatively, if you’d like advice on how to install a shell hot tub) join in housetohome.co.uk‘s webchat this lunchtime, 1pm.

I’ll be begging Ros Anderson, Ideal Home‘s Interiors Editor for advice on how to deal with my teeny bathroom space. Hopefully see you there.

Bathroom inspiration: back to the future

January 11, 2010

I must say, my idea of a relaxing bath or shower, is NOT wondering whether or not tonight will be the night I get zapped into an alternative universe – and I don’t think I’d take that risk with these futuristic bathroom designs.

I found them on Freshome, which always chats about the latest bathroom designs … well they don’t get more modern than this! Innovative and funky, yes, cosy and inviting?? … not unless you’re into alien abductions.

Check out this bathroom from Spiritual Mode – scrub a dub … zaaaaaaaaaaaaap!

And be careful when you’re showering next to this MOSAIC VORTEX, designed by Glassdecor. How can the rest of a bathroom look so innocent, while the shower looks like a ominous hellmouth?

Attic bathrooms

October 12, 2009

Everyone’s loving attic bathrooms, I even heard someone chatting about it in the lift at work (that’s right, chatting in the lift!)

It seems the attic is no longer just for storage boxes, out-of-fashion ski wear and questionable board games. We’ve been hunting on housetohome for our favourites – here’s my lust-worthiest attic bathroom.

The bathrooms that time forgot!

August 6, 2009

I had a serious dose of ANTI room envy when I came across this gallery of bathroom disasters and I couldn’t help but come over all shivery! I have been panicking that my bathroom needs a new look, but this has calmed me down a bit … well, sort of!

Dodgy eighties sitcom set? Or are we expecting the cast of The Little Mermaid to show up?

Some people may love this, but for me, patterned wallpaper and matching curtains do not a stylish bathroom make.

Spot the toilet? You wouldn’t be punished for thinking that this wooden toilet was actually a handy bit of extra storage … shudder.

It’s not acceptable in the eighties! Let’s hope the avocado suite with orange shelving doesn’t make a comeback.
