A cuter bedroom decorating idea?

April 12, 2011

GAH! I can’t decide between this beautiful vintage bedroom and yesterday’s cute-as-pie guest bedroom?? What do you guys think?

Check out this photo gallery of 5 steps to a vintage-style bedroom

My favourite idea has to be the lace wall stencil and jewellery display! Never has buying new jewellery been so justifiable in the interior design style stakes!

The cutest bedroom decorating idea…

April 11, 2011

Ok, it’s a bit of a toss up between this and another gorgeous look actually, the other one I’ll save for tomorrow… (what? I’ve got to keep some mystery!?) Anyway, inspired by my poor excuse for a hotel-style guest bedroom retreat (ahem… think ‘sofa bed’) I’ve been taking notes from Housetohome’s latest spring decorating idea – 5 steps to a pretty guest bedroom.

Follow the link to their 5 easy bedroom decorating ideas… Enjoy!

The ultimate glamorous bathroom

August 9, 2010

This uber-glam dressing area has given me UTTER bathroom envy! Floor-to-ceiling storage for clothes and shoes (which… obviously have to be filled to complete the look… !!); contemporary florals, including a pretty upholstered screen (utterly boudoir-chic); a velvet daybed for a luxurious place to relax PLUS a sexy roll-top bath = a ‘husbands/boyfriends/partners this doesn’t concern you’ bathroom!

Just imagine getting ready for a girly night out in this beauty!

Feature wallpaper goes cuckoo!

July 13, 2010

Woah! Slow down feature wallpaper, I only asked what your name was!! I love a funky feature wallpaper, and I love the bird trend – especially when it’s incorporated in a summery bedroom design idea, but this is too much for me.

Maybe it’s the combination of the feature wallpaper AND the screen upholstered in exactly the same pattern? Or maybe it’s the fact that a room full of swans isn’t my idea of relaxation? (as much as I love Osborn & Little designs in general) But I just think it’s too much – what do you guys think? Am I being harsh?

The definition of bedroom storage panic

June 29, 2010

Bedroom storage panic

noun 1 sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety while hearing something snap in your canvas wardrobe, suddenly followed by an ominous ‘Pisa like’ lean south. 2 informal frenzied hurry to save clothes as if they were on fire.

verb (panicked, panicking) feel or cause to feel bedroom storage panic.

Not the least stressful morning I assure you, franctically throwing my clothes onto my bed for safety with one hand, while using my other one to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pisa that’s now residing in my bedroom.

Ignoring the claims that I have too many clothes that I don’t wear (ok, so I might have seen a couple of items ‘mid-frantic-wardrobe-emptying’ with labels still on), I have decided it’s best just to invest in a new bedroom wardrobe.

Does anyone have any clothes storage space-saving secrets? Me and the handsome pile of clothes I now share my bed with would love to hear them.

How to be more ‘Sex and the City’ about storage

June 22, 2010

Not one to wear a scruffy hoody and muddy jeans, it came as no surprise to me that when I asked Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen (new celeb ambassador for Sharps Bedrooms don’t you know) to chat about bedroom storage, he went STRAIGHT onto how to look after your clothes!

And too right! So many of my clothes treat me so well during the night of ‘that party’, it’s only fair that I treat them with the same respect … check out the sleek fitted wardrobes in Sharps’ new Pure bedroom range – now that’s respect! Watch the video below, for Laurence’s amusing tips on bedroom storage!

Decorating ideas for bedrooms – soft metallics

April 26, 2010

I’ve been getting bags of inspiration from Ideal Home‘s recent feature on ‘blast away the beige with modern neutrals‘ – perfect if you don’t want to add to much colour, but are about as tired of cream as you are of Mondays!

This bedroom design idea is sooooooooo pretty – best ask your hubby for permission first, mind – there’s a lot of girlyness involved! Add softly shimmering shades with with a metallic feature wallpaper, silk cushions and mirrored accessories. Don’t go too crazy with the metallic tones though, highlight just a few areas NOT the whole room – remember sleek, not freak!

Finally keep the furniture simple and not too ornate to avoid the decorating scheme from looking too fussy.

Bedroom design ideas – my top 5!

March 25, 2010

Although I’ve a self-confessed country-style NUT, that doesn’t mean my dream home will look like a glorified gingerbread house (although that would have it’s perks). I seem to take inspiration from a wide range of decorating styles I find along the way, from futuristic modern (quirky metal clock) to gothic punk glamour (fuchsia and black floor lamp in the living room).

Desperately wanting to give my bedroom an update, I’ve been hunting for the latest bedroom design ideas to suit a range of decorating styles this week. Hope you’re as inspired as I am. (Oooh and please send me pictures of any dream-filled schemes you’ve seen)

One for country-style lovers – ok, this would suit my gingerbread house a … treat!

One for pattern lovers – Oodles of sixties-inspired boudoir chic. The Vivienne Westwood wallpaper is fab!

One for modern minimalist lovers – show-stopping lipstick red bedding takes centre stage. The garden clock adds outsized, yet minimal impact (no late for work excuses for you then!)

One to keep him happy – hold up a piece of floral fabric to some men and they’ll run away faster than you can say ‘it’s my new dress you idiot!’ I like this scheme, it’s a happy compromise (as long as those photo frames don’t contain pictures of his ex-girlfriends!)

One for eclectic lovers – plonk modern pieces next to antique-style furniture, and eye-popping colour next to white gloss for a big ol’ bag of eclectic panache!

Lunchtime Lust: get the folk spirit

March 8, 2010

Give your bedroom a hippy hippy shake-up with bright colours, floral patterns and pretty trimmings. This funky decorating idea from Ideal Home is doing nothing to shake my festival fever!!

Here’s how to get this airy fairy look …

1) Keep the main parts of the room understated so that your folk pieces can take centre stage – they deserve it!!

2) Go for detailed cushions – printed, striped, embroidered and embellished – oooh and if you can, go for pompom trims, they’re big news for spring. (Pssssst M&S have some gorgeous lil’ numbers.)

3) Opt for bedlinen with a delicate trim – white bedding with an embroidered edge won’t overpower the look.

4) Upholstered a footstool in a bold fabric to make a feature at the end of the bed.

5) Complete the look with pretty floral prints to add colour to your walls.

The ‘where do I start?’ bedroom

February 16, 2010

Just when I was thinking my ‘covered-in-remnants-of-fancy-dress-costumes’ flat was enough to make me rent a hotel room for a few days, I came across this clutter feature on guardian.co.uk (ironically sent to me by Little Miss Muffet herself, whose spider accessory is now strewn on the back of my chair!)

This is definitely a room I don’t envy – it makes me nervous just looking at it. The article’s really interesting though, especially when it mentions that, as a nation, we are particularly bad at getting rid of electrical devices … which might explain why the other night I found the charger to a camera I had when I was nineteen (albeit, a charger stashed neatly in a storage box!)
