Dream bedroom

June 22, 2012
Who’s in a holiday frame of mind? I certainly am, which is why this French country home is massively appealing. And what wouldn’t you give for a bedroom that opens onto a patio with greenery all around? I think I’m going to have to change my holiday destination…  By the way, in case you didn’t notice, House to Home has introduced the My Moodboards feature, so you can collect and save images on H2H such as this stunning bedroom. As well as it being a useful tool, it’s a lot of fun and surprisingly simple to do – even for me.

What a way to wake up…

Behind closed doors…

June 11, 2012

I know we feature houses of all shapes and sizes – we don’t discriminate here at 25 Beautiful Homes – but there’s something particularly pleasing to see that an unassuming exterior can hide the proverbial Englishman’s castle (or Welsh, Scots or Irish, for that matter!). The homes that provide BH readers with most inspiration aren’t necessarily those that are packed full of quirky features or expensive ‘objet’ but rather places that reflect the owners’ personalities and which work as a whole. For example 1930s semis tend to appear rather staid from the outside, but step through the door of this one and you definitely get a feeling this is a place that’s been put together lovingly – with knick-knacks and mementos that have a special sentiment. Like it? Why not take the full house tour?

Have you got a house – big or small – that you think could grace our pages? We’d love to see it! Just email a selection of room pics to me at sean_o’

Elegant French bedrooms

June 8, 2012

In case you didn’t know, England are soon to play France at football in the Euros. Now we may be superior to that country at sport (on a good day, with the wind in the right direction) but when it comes to elegant interiors, our Gallic friends are most definitely ahead of the game. Take a look at the bedroom in this French country house that is one of our H2H house tours – its calming colour scheme and the soft flowing lines of the traditional cane bed are a winning combination.

A cuter bedroom decorating idea?

April 12, 2011

GAH! I can’t decide between this beautiful vintage bedroom and yesterday’s cute-as-pie guest bedroom?? What do you guys think?

Check out this photo gallery of 5 steps to a vintage-style bedroom

My favourite idea has to be the lace wall stencil and jewellery display! Never has buying new jewellery been so justifiable in the interior design style stakes!

The cutest bedroom decorating idea…

April 11, 2011

Ok, it’s a bit of a toss up between this and another gorgeous look actually, the other one I’ll save for tomorrow… (what? I’ve got to keep some mystery!?) Anyway, inspired by my poor excuse for a hotel-style guest bedroom retreat (ahem… think ‘sofa bed’) I’ve been taking notes from Housetohome’s latest spring decorating idea – 5 steps to a pretty guest bedroom.

Follow the link to their 5 easy bedroom decorating ideas… Enjoy!

Friday’s Fetish: Breaking the rules!

January 7, 2011

If like me, you’re already fed up with new year resolutions and good intentions, then a little chic rule breaking is in order…

I can’t be bothered to detox – I don’t like the headaches – and forget all that clearing out the clutter, this year, I’m embracing it! You see, chucking out the rulebook and going against the grain is liberating. Which is why I HAVE to share with you these little gems of inspiration I saw in the January edition of Livingetc.

Never clash bright colours? No-way!

Bring on the brights! Sunshine shades of yellow, orange and fuchsia sings when used in blocks – not patterned – and is calmed with pale grey flooring, the odd black accent and natural wood and stone accessories.

Brilliant blue and gorgeous green

Hmm, blue and green should never be seen, goes the maxim, but check out this picture! Drama, style and the perfect mix of contemporary traditional accessories make this dining room so inviting – anyone for a cuppa?

Who says a fireplace defines a room? It doesn’t have to be the focal point – so passé! And zoning doesn’t have to be ordered either. I love the way this room is broken up with an off-centre charcoal grey – to define a work zone – and a totally contrasting bold Toile print for relaxing.

And what’s more, all this rule breaking is soooo on-trend for S/S 2011: bright blues and greens on eyes were all over the catwalk and clashing colour-block patterns and designs were also a major feature of all the big runway shows.

Friday’s Fetish: Decorating with wool

November 26, 2010

Must not talk about Christmas. Must. Not. Talk. About. Christmas. Well if I can’t talk about that, at least let me rabbit on about snuggley and cosy winter decorating ideas – it is almost -20 degrees outside. Ideal Home‘s got some great ideas on how to create a cosy winter retreat… wanna see?

Use fine worsted wools in a palette of greys for a calm, sophisticated bedroom scheme. Throw in a few accents of deep denim blue and use vintage wooden furniture to add warmth to the cool scheme.

Use cosy woollens to keep your bedroom warm and snuggley this winter

Pile in textured woollens and comforting neutrals to add a warm luxurious feel to your living room. Quirky wall art, sconces and ornaments give this living room look a quintessentially British nostalgic feel.

Lunchtime Lust: Sexy and swanky stripes

November 24, 2010

I’m finding myself teetering on the edge of a very steep Christmas cliff at the moment, a mere breath away from plummeting into a world of Christmas decorations, ideas, gift ideas and festive Crafts… so why I’ve still got my balance, I thought I’d continue with some general (albeit it absolutely stunning decorating schemes).

I love these luxurious decorating schemes from Homes & Gardens, they show just how stripes offer the perfect way to make a stylish statement.

An elegant wallpaper with wide horizontal stripes will give a living room the illusion of width.

Friday’s Fetish: designer hotel rooms

November 19, 2010

It’s Friday, it’s cold outside, so obviously I’m daydreaming about holidays to foreign lands. I’ve fixed my sights on the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, because (thanks to Design Milk) I’ve just found a place to stay that’s far from the sterile space of a British budget hotel.

LLOVE. No, not a typo, but the name of this amazing exhibition/hotel that you can actually stay in! I’ve always wanted to be a performance artist – ok, not strictly true, but this creative collaboration between Japanese and Dutch designers would be the perfect place to launch my career/ sleep in incredible one-of-a-kind surroundings. And unique is definitely the word… just look at these bedrooms!

Staying in a space with this maxed-out striped effect on the customised wallpaper, floors, and everything in between would be like sleeping inside the lining of a giant Paul Smith suit (I would imagine).

Bix box, little box… this bedroom is an exact replica of a dilapidated traditional Japanese-style room, only with really comfy looking beds. Take note of the paper screens that form the walls – a great style idea to steal.

If you love the great outdoors, perhaps this is one for you? Love the coat hangers on the tree branches and the buried bath tub. It’s all a little Midsummer Night’s Dream, the updated version.

And from one fairytale to another… what’s not to love about this GIANT sculptural bed? Goldilocks has no problems with me saying, this bedroom is juuuusssst right. Ok, where do I book?
