Delightful dining

February 13, 2012

I love a large dining room, but it seems that having a separate space dedicated purely to eating and entertaining, is something of a luxury these days. With open-plan spaces and island units with breakfast bars on the rise, could it be that dining rooms will soon be extinct?

While we mull that over, here’s a few of my favourite dining designs…

A dramatic feature wall makes for a striking scheme

Set within a conservatory, this room benefits from lots of light

Bright, bold and modern, this vibrant design really makes a statement

A wow-factor light fitting and quirky accessories add interest. Oh, and have you noticed the wine store in the corner, conveniently to hand?

Which is your favourite?

Christmas is coming!

July 8, 2010

Too soon to talk about Christmas? Hmmmmmmm, perhaps (although I swear I heard Christmas tunes in September last year?) Anyway, don’t panic, I’m not talking about getting ready for Christmas just yet … I’m talking about ‘Christmas Press Show Season!’

This is one of my favourite times of year, where I get to rush off in the baking summer heat (from the tubes, at least) to see what Christmas decorating ideas the high street has in store for us, while stuffing my face with Christmas cake – just what I need before I go on holiday!

Anyway, sorry I haven’t been posting more this week, but I’ll be sure to give you a lil round-up when I’ve seen them all.

In the meantime, here’s a sneak preview of what John Lewis has in store….

Right, now back to chatting about hot summer garden ideas – all in a day’s work…

Kitchen diner ideas

April 28, 2010

Anyone planning a kitchen update? Not everyone’s lucky enough to have an extra room to use as a dining space, so why not combine the two? This morning I’ve been inspired by Housetohome‘s three kitchen-diner looks. They’re perfect for family breakfasts; informal dinner parties; or the times when your friends are round, you’re preparing dinner, and you simply cannot BEAR the thought of missing out on the gossip.

Modern brights kitchen-diner

I love the contrast between the sleek modern kitchen units and white walls, and the warm oak table and benches with fuchsia seat covers.

Country-style kitchen-diner

roomenvy - spring whites kitchen-diner

This is more modern than most country kitchen schemes, but I LOVE the traditional dresser, and shots of blue against the white furniture.

Smart contemporary kitchen-diner

This kitchen-diner has oodles of glam, with smart soft furnishings and shots of rich green.

Use a cheating boyfriend for crafts!

April 21, 2010

How to get revenge on a cheating boyfriend? Turn their best shirts into a lust-worthy statement furniture piece. I once heard a lovely tale about a girl paying back her terrible boyfriend by removing all the buttons from his work shirts, so he had to go into his morning with his shirt WIDE open (or that’s what she and I hoped!)

I think this funky craft idea from Livingetc is even BETTER! Getting your friends and family to rest their bottoms on his favourite work shirt is the perfect pay back – plus a fun craft idea that’ll brighten up your day even if he hasn’t!

NB. there’s no variation of this for his sports car metalwork, but I’ll look into it.
