Outside-inside living

February 9, 2012

The recent spell of snow (yippee!) has really made me appreciate having a kitchen-living space – particularly one with a double set of bifold doors. Waking up and trotting downstairs to make fresh coffee and toast, then relaxing on the sofa to enjoy the garden covered in a white blanket was sheer bliss. I must say, opting to create an outside-inside kitchen extension was the most life-improving decision we could have made. The fact that it’s big enough for all us to congregate and do our own thing makes it even better. Here’s a few more I could easily live with – each with a distinctive touch…

Country-style decorating idea – vintage florals

May 7, 2010

I found some really pretty ways to decorate with florals in the May issue of Country Homes & Interiors. They’re perfect for adding a touch of country charm to your space, without breaking the bank (… or actually buying a house in the country!)

Find inspiration with these beauties …

Liven up a bed with colourful throws and beautiful floral scatter cushions.

I want to be the girl with a floral shopping trolley, but I’m not sure my impromptu trips to Tesco could pull it off?

Close your eyes and think of Bali

April 15, 2010

I thought I’d end the day with something a little more lust-worthy … and nothing could be more so than this beautiful modern alfresco dining area. Beautiful loungers to laze around in, a smart dining area for lunch, and a sleek built-in barbecue and wood-burning oven that are perfect for entertaining with.

All packed onto modern garden decking that could make even the most stylish summer retreats in the tropics pull their socks up.

Yum.

Can I come in? Cute fisherman’s cottage

February 5, 2010

I’d LOVE to have a sweet litte fisherman’s cottage … without the fisherman though. This lovely home, featured on Apartment Therapy, made me dream of summer holidays and warm evenings – although I didn’t put up the pictures of the swimming pool, it was just too painful.

Let me at that chalkboard wall! I think it looks fantastic, and injects a big dollop of personality into a traditionally seaside-style kitchen.

This living room proves coastal chic doesn’t have to be all about weathered finishes and ships in bottles! Team rustic pieces with bold monochrome stripes for a touch of drama.

This country-style guest bedroom is just too pretty for words – although I’m a bit nervous about the table being placed in front of the door.

I love the thought of a garden room to escape to. This outhouse is packed with cushions … and pumpkins?? … and is definitely where you’d find me if I came to stay. I love the seaside-inspired glass bottles, and those drawers are super handy for packing full of outdoor games and extra blankets for when it gets chilly.

Garden hideaway

June 12, 2009

While checking out some of the designs featured at the Chelsea Flower Show, I fell in love with this beautiful summer garden room designed by Marston & Langinger. By wallpapering the inside with cute cherry wallpaper, it really feels like an extension of the house, as opposed to your traditional orangery. Now i’m going to spend my time daydreaming about my own secret getaway!
