Summer of Love: 3 best hallway ideas

September 9, 2010

OK, so onward with my summer favourites! Hmmmmm, let’s start with sexy hallway ideas. I’ve been browsing the web daily for inspiration for my hallway ever since I decided to buy my house!

Here are my top 3 hallway ideas of the summer…

1) Casual hallway seating. I love the thought of my friends and family (travelling MILES to visit me, of course!!) slumping down into a cosy haven as soon as they get through the door!

2) Update a white staircase. I fell in love with the rainbow bannisters, what a great (and, most importantly, inexpensive) way to update a neutral space.

3) A touch of good ol’ coastal style. Summer wouldn’t be summer without at least one seaside-inspired decorating scheme to wow me. I love this hallway idea, especially the personalised memo boards for each member of the family.

Housetohome are doing a series of ’10 of the best’ photo galleries for every room and EVERY style, so you can browse through everything from the best country bathrooms to the best modern children’s rooms. Modern hallway – I love the sleek glass staircase and graphic print rug.

Hallway decorating ideas – to the beach!

June 30, 2010

I love this summer hallway decorating idea, it just makes me want to reach for my bucket and spade (ahem, my baby brother’s bucket and spade) and head straight to the beach.

Devote a designated spot to change shoes or hang coats and towels to keep the place tidy as kids run in and out. Brighten up the space with bright fabric and colourful hooks, and by add as many coastal-chic accessories as possible! The beach sign is so sweet (although, I think it’s pointing in the wrong direction?) and the cushions are so so pretty!

Hallways designs with animal instinct!

May 26, 2010

First came butterflies, then came the birds, so I guess it was only a matter of time before other creatures started crawling into our decorating schemes. At first, I wasn’t a fan, imagining a living room covered in duck memorabilia or a horrifying shark feature wall (imagine?), but I have seen some cute designs using pretty creature comforts.

I found these animal-inspired hallway designs in Country Homes and Interiors, and I think they’re just adorable.

Turn a country-style bench into an inviting seat with bunny scatter cushions, a bunny doortstop and a cute rabbit wall stencil.

A smart-dog print wallpaper adds interest under the dado rail in this hallway design. Complete the look with a framed row of doggy silhouettes.

This is a bit too formal for me, but I think the subtle pencil sketch wallpaper is very pretty – it adds an elegant touch without overpowering the scheme.

Cloakroom ideas

May 11, 2010

As much as I loved seeing a large footprint in my living room the other day, I love this cloakroom idea from Ideal Home even more! It has everything you need to clear hallway clutter but in THIS case, it’s got everything to manage muddy boots and the aftermath of your pets’ adventures outside.

Get this boot room in 5 easy steps

1) Go for hard-wearing paint and robust flooring – it makes such a high traffic area much easier to clean.

2) Choose locker-room-style cupboards – they’re tough and durable and will stand up to a few knocks. Stash with gardening kit, sports equipment and items for the car. You could even line them with oilcloths, so that they can be easily wiped down.

3) Buy stackable storage grates – choose ones with hinged lids so you can keep shoes, gardening equipment and outdoor games neatly stored away, but easy to get your hands on!

4) Put up a coat rack – mount a piece of perspex on the wall to protect it from wet clothes, plus invest in a bootrack with a mat underneath for the ‘but I promise Jenn, I wiped them down?’ mud spills!

5) Create a place for pets – keep accessories and toys in wall-mounted baskets, and store food in tins on the shelf, hanging leads and collars on hooks below.

Check out this super-organised hallway! It’s ideal for the busy family lifestyle, with built in shelving for baskets filled with everything from hats, gloves and scarves, to ‘man drawer essentials’ (keys, batteries, foreign currency!) It also has a handy seat for when you’re taking off muddy shoes, and a storage area underneath for you can to stash them. I think it’s great!
