Happy hallways

May 12, 2011

Is it just me who can’t break the habit of dumping my bag, coat, keys and mail as soon as I get in the front door? I’ve been inspired to mend my ways by this terrifically-tidy hallway.

The neat freak within me is pleased...

If you’re looking for hallway decorating ideas, perhaps integrating some clever storage ideas could be just the ticket! A drawer, basket or hook for each family member would surely do something to reduce the accumulation of odds and ends in the entry to your home, no?

Best Hallway 2010 – And the winner is…

January 13, 2011

“Hello. Welcome home!” Is what this vibrant and functional hallway would say if it could talk, which is why it’s my FAVE hallway of 2010.

We're green with envy over this gorgeous hallway

Hallways are meant to be welcoming and inviting; they’re the first ‘room’ we experience when we come home and the last we visit as we leave our cherrished abodes. But more often than not hallways are neglected areas that are dumping grounds for shoes, coats, keys and post we’re avoiding.

Take a (green) leaf out of this example and be clever with your clutter and your space. I LOVE the verdant green teamed with a variety of natural wood tones and textures – ultra-tactile.

A major plus point for this hallway is the office cabinet. Who’d have thought a mini office area could work in a hallway? Especially one that features a bright green office cabinet. But marrying green accessories (the flowers, vase and objects on the wooden shelves) and homemade labels on the cabinet tie up the style nicely.

Can I come in? 16th Century country cottage

November 4, 2010

Now I love the story of Hansel and Gretel at the best of times, but could I live in their home? Could you?? Well I am in the mood for chocolate and sweets, and I am on the hunt for a cosy country-cottage home, so maybe I should!

The classic kitchen scheme is in keeping with the rest of the house…

Friday’s Fetish: New England Style

October 1, 2010

Oh I love New England decorating style. I don’t know if I want to admit how many magazines I trudged through to find an image to show you why, but it does start with ‘hun’ and ends with ‘dreds’

Here’s exactly the type of cosy New England style that’s cool and calm in summer and cosy and welcoming in winter…

Mix modern buys with vintage pieces to create a living room that looks as though it has evolved over time.

Simple waxed or painted wood furniture against a backdrop of whitewashed or neutral walls sets the scene for the easy-going New England style look. Choose natural fibre rugs and runners, and use wicker baskets for storage.

Country-style decorating trend – monochrome

September 23, 2010

I love the monochrome look, but as country-style decorating girl, it can be difficult find a black-and-white decorating scheme that would suit the rest of my home – it’s sits pretty as a contemporary type of look.

However, Country Homes & Interiors has made me eat my ‘modern monochrome’ words! Black and white is getting a country twist this season on toiles and hand-blocked patterns. Yippeeeee! Be inspired by these beautiful schemes on how to get this classic colour palette in your home.

Mix small and large-scale designs with an upholstered headboard against a statement wallpaper…

Summer of Love: 3 best hallway ideas

September 9, 2010

OK, so onward with my summer favourites! Hmmmmm, let’s start with sexy hallway ideas. I’ve been browsing the web daily for inspiration for my hallway ever since I decided to buy my house!

Here are my top 3 hallway ideas of the summer…

1) Casual hallway seating. I love the thought of my friends and family (travelling MILES to visit me, of course!!) slumping down into a cosy haven as soon as they get through the door!

2) Update a white staircase. I fell in love with the rainbow bannisters, what a great (and, most importantly, inexpensive) way to update a neutral space.

3) A touch of good ol’ coastal style. Summer wouldn’t be summer without at least one seaside-inspired decorating scheme to wow me. I love this hallway idea, especially the personalised memo boards for each member of the family.

Hallway decorating ideas – to the beach!

June 30, 2010

I love this summer hallway decorating idea, it just makes me want to reach for my bucket and spade (ahem, my baby brother’s bucket and spade) and head straight to the beach.

Devote a designated spot to change shoes or hang coats and towels to keep the place tidy as kids run in and out. Brighten up the space with bright fabric and colourful hooks, and by add as many coastal-chic accessories as possible! The beach sign is so sweet (although, I think it’s pointing in the wrong direction?) and the cushions are so so pretty!
