Linen cupboard lusting

March 3, 2010

Want to find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day? Why not show Mum that you’ve evolved into a domestic goddess with a super-organised linen cupboard like this one! If she’s anything like my mum, she’ll need to sit down with a glass of wine – her motherly work will be complete!

I’m RUTHLESSLY stealing the fab ideas of Ideal Home’s how to plan the perfect linen cupboard – quick, call the police!!

1) Keep a blanket bag to protect out-of-season duvets and blankets from dust.

2) Add a hanging organiser for spare soaps, toothbrushes and toothpaste etc for guests – hostess with the mostess!

3) Give each guest room a colour theme for towels and bed linen.

4) Keep smaller items like flannels in baskets or, like me the other day, you’ll find a hand towel tucked INTO the bottom of your duvet.

5) Keep children’s swimming kits, or your own gymwear on hooks on the back of the door so you can grab them as you rush out (not that you’re in a hurry to get to the gym, mind.)

Fun, fabulous and flirty fabrics

January 20, 2010

What a difference some well-chosen fabrics make!! I watched as Mockie Harrison, designer for John Lewis, ran a bunch of us through the new spring/summer collection, mouth AJAR at the gorgeous fabrics on show (when I wasn’t tucking into the food, that is!)

Here, have a sneak peak …. but don’t tell anyone!

There are those birds again! Although I like that this bedlinen is a bit quirkier and graphic than so many ‘birdmania’ designs i’ve been seeing.

Aaaaaaw, this pulls on my country kitchen heartstrings! Checked fabrics are a must-have in a country scheme, but I think this leaf fabric gives a funky edge to it.

I love the soft purples and pinks in this dining room. It’s super flirty and perfect for a romantic evening.

Celebrity bedroom decorating ideas

November 20, 2009

Can you guess which celebrity has designed each of these bedrooms?

a) This was her moment.

I went to check out the new ‘Influences’ spring/summer range for Matalan and to meet Martine McCutcheon (a) and Linda Barker (b) , who join Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen (c), Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan (d) … who were unfortunately not there being stuck in a celeb-filled ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ jungle, and all! (with the really charming celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo who also designs for Matalan – must be something in the water!)

Actress, Jane Asher, and celeb chef, James Tanner, also join the team and had some GORGEOUS kitchen buys to show me.

White minimalist bedroom – relaxing or not?

August 5, 2009

Now I know that modern minimalist style is super sleek and super chic, and perfect for that hotel-style feel. This white bedroom scheme makes a fantastic statement, and the futuristic furniture is ideal for the look. However, I don’t think I could relax in this bedroom, it seems a bit clinical for my taste – and it reminds me of the Michael & Janet Jackson ‘Scream’ video.

Am I being too old-fashioned? I usually love the hotel-chic look?

It’s a shore thing! Nautical bedroom

August 3, 2009

Ahoy there matey!! I love the beach hut look. With its weather finishes, nautical stripes and quirky beach finds, this summery coastal trend suits seaside homes and landlubbers alike. The shiplap bedframe is perfect for this laid-back bedroom – stick to a white palette, with blue and red accents, and you’ll sail through!

Boudoir chic wallpaper

June 12, 2009

Sometimes, using wallpaper on all four walls can look bold and garish – and that’s not always ideal in a relaxing bedroom. However, I really like how they’ve used it here. The peachy, metallic floral design really adds to the boudoir feel. Team it with silky bedding and a buttoned-back headboard for ultimate hollywood glamour.

A taste of Caribbean

May 27, 2009

Don’t get me wrong, i’m very grateful for the British sunshine, but this calm and cool bedroom makes me long for that exotic beach hut-style. I love how the unusual canvas adds natural texture against the white-painted wall panelling; how the sheer curtains create a calming feel; and how the gorgeous silk ruffled throw adds a shot of mocha luxury to the crisp white bed linen. Bliss!

Shimmering accents

March 26, 2009

Classic, dark wood furniture doesn’t have to be dramatic and dated. Make sure you keep the walls in a fresh pale shade, and pretty up the look with light shimmering metallic linens and accessories for a boudoir look to die for.
