Warm welcome

August 21, 2012

It’s a space I never get tired of looking at. Mainly, I think, because of the initial impression it gives you – it’s important to get it just right. What am I talking about? Hallways, of course!

Now, you may already have your hall nicely decorated, but don’t let that stop you – no one really needs a reason to redecorate, sometimes we do so simply because we can. After all, there’s nothing more fun for an interiors enthusiast than planning the next scheme.

Here’s a few beautiful ideas to whet your appetite.

Carpet in a hallway just looks so inviting and this Natural Look design by Carpetright is in a practical grey shade.

If you’re lucky enough to have a hallway of this size, why not go all out with the glamour? Statement furniture and an elegant glass pendant certainly create a room to be proud of.

This stair runner cosies up a plain painted staircase and is bang on trend for this year’s autumn/winter season.

Get creative and add a splash of colour by painting your banisters or banustrades. I love this quirky hall, and the green spindles look stunning when set against crisp white.

Passing through

November 24, 2011

Hallways can be boring. There’s no doubt about it, it’s a hard room to make attractive – more often than not it’s simply used as a dumping ground for coats and shoes. However, this picture, from a former Georgian vicarage in Hampshire, makes achieving an elegant hallway look easy. It’s elegant yet cosy, and I love the warm wood mixed with limestone floor tiles and a cool pale-blue backdrop (and of course a dog curled up on a rug – who can resist?).

The fact you can see right through to the back of the house adds an element of light to the room, and the chunky wood console table is the ideal place for storing keys and post, with a mirror for last-minute appearance checks before you head out the door. What do you think of this room? We’d love to hear your thoughts on how you’ve decorated your own hallways.

Hallway decorating ideas

September 28, 2010

I love making a colourful entrance… although that does usually involve me turning up late with an unmatching pair of shoes. These colourful statement hallways are a much safer way to make your friends and family speechless!

Find hallway decorating inspiration from this video, you’ll find fantastic ways to add colour from your banisters to your stair risers!

Something for the weekend?

February 10, 2010

I’ve been inspired by Livingetc’s 10 weekend decorating updates – much more productive that eating your bodyweight in pub lunches and napping!

I LOVE these stair stickers from Brume. I know I’ve marvelled in the past at some weird and wonderful wall sticker designs, but I think it’s the subtle appeal of these little French words that has me drooling at my desk – je ne sais quoi?

What’s more is that they’re really easy to incorporate into your space … and at the very least they’re a handy little test for your other halves when they come in from a night out with the boys!

Can I come in? Hugh Jackman’s home

February 3, 2010

Or should I put this under the category of ‘Lunchtime Lust‘? It’s hard to describe how I felt when I saw these  pictures of Hugh Jackman‘s home on Luxist, but the word ‘faint’ may paint a reasonable picture … and then of course there were my thoughts on the decorating style.

Of course, I’d need to run around this modern minimalist pad with some country-style accessories; paint a couple of walls in bright fuchsia; and let’s face it, choose some sort of blinds, but to be honest, Hugh Jackman could live in a shoe box and I’d be just as happy. No honestly.

Makes looking out of the window and seeing your strange neighbour in his dressing gown somewhat worse, doesn’t it?

I am actually lost for words … oh, hang on, expect for two – ‘colourful’ and ‘cushions’.

Apparently Hugh Jackman‘s a fantastic cook – I mean give my heartrate a CHANCE!

Well at least he’s sensibly installed a window screen in this room – although i’m sure there were a lot of disappointed faces along the Hudson River.

Pretty much mirroring my mindset at this point.

And we share a mutual love of wine? Honestly Hugh, it’s meant to be.

Check out this cool kitchen!

Ok, I know it’s rude to stair (sorry), but I couldn’t help but double-take this fantastic kitchen from TrendsNow. I just love how they’ve incorporated the stairs into the basement kitchen area paying extra attention to the colour scheme. You’d have to remember not to leave plates/piping hot pans out, mind.

Apartment envy!

July 27, 2009

I could spend hours lusting after some of the homes in Freshome, especially this gorgeous London flat. I love the exposed brick and conservatory-style ceiling in the light and airy open-plan living space, the bedroom brings new meaning to the term ‘under-stair storage’, and the tree-house style hideaway would be perfect for a little office. I can’t believe it used to be a hospital! … i wonder if they’re looking to move?

Space-saving stairs

March 11, 2009

Didn’t think you had room for a staircase?  This staircase design means you can squeeze one in at a much narrower width than your standard staircase.

Glass stairs

August 19, 2008

I seem to have moved on from my wallpaper obsession straight into a staircase obsession, but check out these glass stairs.  Forgetting about scuff marks and smudges, they’re so cool!
