Fun with florals

July 25, 2012

Here at 25 Beautiful Homes we’ve always loved a pretty floral print, and whether it’s rain or shine, they never fail to put a smile on our faces. From delicate to bold, graphic to vintage, floral prints help create a warm feel within the home…

We love this feminine boudoir which uses shades of soft pink and cream, with a delicate floral design.

Vintage-style florals are used within this dining area on the cushions, tablecloth and within the shelving unit. They’re even carried through to the crockery, with some pretty blooms as a centrepiece on the table.

A bright-coloured floral wallpaper has been used to create a feature wall in this sitting room, with a variety of pretty cushions and equally bright curtains. Bold, yet beautiful.

Easy salvage

May 30, 2012

Once upon a time, salvage meant unwanted; a collection of unattractive items that people didn’t want in their homes. Skip forward to 2012 and it’s a trend to be reckoned with, with many of us looking for the ultimate in unique, quirky pieces to display. In fact, it seems there’s nothing cooler than to be able to reply, on being asked, ‘Oh that? I found it in a skip, gave it a quick sand and voila!’ I admit I’m somewhat envious of  those that can exhibit distressed furniture and unusual paraphernalia with style and flair – so here’s a few examples of how to get it right…

Reclaimed boards line the wall, while a vintage sideboard sits neatly in front. Two different woods and a selection of clutter yet it works beautifully.

An old distressed table takes centre stage in this minimal scheme, with two single lightbulbs dangling above.

Old signage has been propped under a rustic-style table for interest, with clusters of objects that just invite you to browse.

Can I come in? Quirky Brighton house

August 16, 2010

There are so many funky decorating ideas to steal from this late-Victorian home in Hove. Reinvented salvaged pieces and stylish design classics create a unique space that’s packed with colour and quirkiness.

I love how much colour is injected into an otherwise simple bedroom scheme. The vintage prints add character… although I’d feel a bit like I was being watched!!

What a great idea for food storage – chalk on labels for a rustic yet practical touch.

This is one of the most modern rooms in the home, but it’s softened by the wooden floorboards. I love the retro accessories.

Friday’s Fetish: Cosy vintage decorating

July 30, 2010

It’s not often I get myself into a pickle in a newsagents, but when I had the cover of Ideal Home July issue to my left and a magazine with Bradley Cooper on the front to my right, I simply had NO IDEA where to look!

See, this cosy lived-in living room oozes vintage charm. I think it’s just soooooo pretty, and love that (having got my hands on the issue) inside they have a fuss-free alternative for those who find the romantic fairytale vintage look a bit too much.

Faded, worm furniture pieces are mixed with faded fabrics and comfy seating packed with cushions.

And if you find romantic vintage too busy, go for faded vintage appeal with subtel colour and white-painted furniture. Included a mix of patterna dn texture and don’t go too overboard on the floral front.

I heart Lisa Stickley’s vintage accessories

May 27, 2010

I mentioned the other day that I had raced (faster than I’d care to admit) to Debenhams to see Lisa Stickley’s new range of vintage-style products for Debenhams. I just love their nostalgic feel and how easily they can be incorporated into a country or modern-style home.

I’ve snuck some preview shots of the new designs, so feel free to lust after them! Plus, get to know the designer a bit better with this video. As much as I love chatting about decorating styles and inspiration, there are just some questions that must be asked … like ‘what would Lisa Stickley save if her house was on fire?’

Can I come in? Cute vintage country cottage

March 4, 2010
Looking for vintage country decorating ideas? Step inside this adorable country home from Country Homes & Interiors. Pastels, chintzy florals, painted furniture, cute country accessories, EMMA BRIDGEWATER … I’m more excited than I really should admit! I love the sweet sugary accents, and mix of white painted furniture and wood in this kitchen-diner. It really adds a retro country feel to the space.

I’d love a massive wooden trunk like that, perfect for spare chunky blankets. Not the most man-friendly of bedroom schemes, but proudly pretty nonetheless.

Vintage bedrooms – it’s love!

March 1, 2010

I adore the vintage glamour look – whether it’s in decorating or the fashion world – and this vintage bedroom is no exception. In fact, it actually made me warm inside – no mean feat on a Monday morning.

Here’s how to get the look:

1) Choose a trailing floral wallpaper in a soothing tone for an elegant backdrop

2) Layer a traditional-style bed with shimmering silk cushions and throws

3) Add accents of sparkling glass and crystal, and snap up some vintage chic mirrors.

4) Accessories, accessories, accessories! Keep yours firmly on display with pretty hooks and a tailor’s clothes dummy!

Weird and wonderful

September 18, 2009

This room has caused a bit of a stir in the office – but I love it! There’s nothing better than a whacky chair to brighten up a Friday afternoon.

Even the lamp (which I swear is my Gran’s) seems to work in this quirky colour scheme.

From catwalk to bedroom

August 19, 2009

I’m no devout fashionista, but I like to tune into what’s going on (I work next to Marie Claire after all!). Now, i’m not about to cover myself in doileys, but as decor addict has noticed, this ‘new vintage‘ lace look is popping up everywhere at the moment – even in the bedroom!

I love the oversized lace pendant light and gothic-style canvas – they really transform what is otherwise quite a simple scheme.
