I’m not an overly traditional gal but I can really get into this quirky toile decorating scheme.
Citrus brights keep this toile scheme current
By breaking a few decorating rules and mixing up toile patterns in both neutrals and zesty brights, this bedroom has been elevated from stuffy and ‘blah’, to fresh and ‘tres-chic’! Florals and toiles are in vogue for spring, so why not be brave and try something similar at home?
Woooohoooooooooooo another May bank holiday weekend, time for barbecues, sunbathing and sitting in the park … only its due to rain? What a pickle! I’ve found some great country craft ideas for those of us who aren’t blessed with sunshine this weekend – they’re the perfect afternoon activity!
Love the classic country farmhouse look? You don’t have to live next to a herd of cows to create the rustic look – just invest in a few key buys, then close your eyes and pretend that busy main road is actually a babbling brook
Keep the basics simple, with a chunky wooden table and chairs and plain crockery. Add personality with accessories like bright bowls and decorations that can be updated as the seasons change. Put a bunch of flowers in a pretty pitcher instead of a more formal vase, and go for an oil cloth to protect your table from spills.
You can’t get more rustic than adding a TREE to your decorating scheme! I think it makes an adorable entrance to this compact kitchen.
roomenvy - woodland country kitchen
Rattan baskets, chunky kitchenware, a whistling kettle and homemade bread? It’s couldn’t be more of a country kitchen if it tried – I actually think I have a crush on it.
roomenvy - small country kitchen
p.s. See what the editor of Country Homes & Interiors magazine’s key steps to a country kitchen are with housetohome’s country kitchens video … although she doesn’t say anything about tree planting??

Pastels, chintzy florals, painted furniture, cute country accessories, EMMA BRIDGEWATER … I’m more excited than I really should admit! I love the sweet sugary accents, and mix of white painted furniture and wood in this kitchen-diner. It really adds a retro country feel to the space.

roomenvy - country cottage bedroom
I’d love a massive wooden trunk like that, perfect for spare chunky blankets. Not the most man-friendly of bedroom schemes, but proudly pretty nonetheless.
I’m always on the lookout for a new country trend, not that my decorating bank budget enjoys this side of me. Anyway, I saw this exotic look in February’s Country Homes and Interiors mag (pssssst, you can read them online, on the Editor’s blog Countrydays). It’s all about rich velvets, luxurious beading and ornate patterns, all for an Eastern-inspired flavour that’s sexy and spicy!

You didn’t think I was teasing you with the country kitchen decorating tips I mentioned the other day, did you? I would NEVER ! Here’s Rhoda Parry, Editor of Country Homes & Interiors spilling the beans on what makes the perfect country kitchen. Enjoy!
I’m never sure about tiles in the hallway. They are practical and can look great, for me though I always want a hallway to be really warm and cosy – this can be a tricky look to achieve with tiles. I like what they’ve done here. Gone for an unusual tile choise and warmed up the scheme with a practical sisal rug.
