Sliding doors

July 30, 2009

I really like this idea from Dwell. By choosing  sliding doors between the contemporary bedroom and bathroom, they can either create an open-plan feel, or get some privacy (often essential when all you need is a nice relaxing bath in peace!). Plus, sliding doors are great for saving space – perfect for compact schemes.

Also, sliding doors can be a great way to disguise your TV if the design doesn’t really fit into the rest of your scheme. Check out how a sleek modern design is hidden away in this country living room.

Magnet’s Rio kitchen: from high street to home!

July 29, 2009

I remember first seeing Magnet‘s Rio kitchen and wondering how many people would go for such a sugary stripey look. It was designed to be an accent range – perfect for adding splashes of colour – so imagine my surprise when I saw that someone had missed the memo (intentionally or not) and covered their ENTIRE kitchen in the range – and teamed with matching lime walls and matching pink appliances! Yowch!! I just can’t figure out whether the designers at Magnet would be delighted or rolling in their … paint trays! Thoughts welcome.

A splash of hotel-chic style

July 29, 2009

Sometimes waking up to hop into the shower seems such an effort, but I don’t think i’d need much motivation if this was my bedroom – in fact, all I’d have to do is slide out from under my duvet and i’d be pretty much there! This might not be the most practical of bedroom designs, but its a super cool wake-up call nonetheless.

The fun side of geometry

July 28, 2009

I think year 10 maths would have been much more enjoyable had I been able to look at roomsets decorated in on-trend geometric style … instead of wrestling with a protractor. It’s set to be really big this year, so I’ve been hunting for some great ways to incorporate the look (my maths teacher would be so proud!)

Create a stylish splashback with quirky geometric tiles – I love the Moroccan feel of these bad boys!

Make a statement with a diamond upholstery fabric – the green walls make this geometric headboard really stand out.

Go for a subtly patterned honeycomb wallpaper and add some punch with colourful furniture, like these vivaciously violet chairs!

Or if you’re feeling a bit braver, why not create the wow factor with a graphic feature wall in a grid motif design?

Fit for a princess!

July 28, 2009

I might have grown out of it now (just), but i’m still really jealous of this girl’s bedroom. Whereas my decorating style came in the form of a large posters of cheesy pop groups, this adorable room has a custom-built CASTLE! What more could a young Rapunzel want? Its ideal for stashing books and toys – or just hiding from the parents!

Check out this cool kitchen!

July 27, 2009

Ok, I know it’s rude to stair (sorry), but I couldn’t help but double-take this fantastic kitchen from TrendsNow. I just love how they’ve incorporated the stairs into the basement kitchen area paying extra attention to the colour scheme. You’d have to remember not to leave plates/piping hot pans out, mind.

Apartment envy!

July 27, 2009

I could spend hours lusting after some of the homes in Freshome, especially this gorgeous London flat. I love the exposed brick and conservatory-style ceiling in the light and airy open-plan living space, the bedroom brings new meaning to the term ‘under-stair storage’, and the tree-house style hideaway would be perfect for a little office. I can’t believe it used to be a hospital! … i wonder if they’re looking to move?

Because sometimes one TV just isn’t enough …

July 24, 2009

If you have the money, I think it’s a great idea to invest in two TVs so that everyone can see the screen when you have lots of guests round. I certainly wouldn’t say no myself and I think it makes a quirky statement – but I do think they should be at least a little bit spaced apart? I do love that mosaic wall mural though.

Shabby-chic bedroom

July 23, 2009

My first thought when I saw this room on decor8 was, ‘boy do I want to straighten up those pictures’. But at a second glance, I thought maybe that’s what the shabby-chic look is all about – relaxing, quirky and a bit rough around the edges. I think this is the perfect place to get some peace and quiet.
